Wilson Sonsini Secures Jury Trial Victory for Google in Case Alleging Misuse of Advertising Technology
On June 10, 2025, Wilson Sonsini secured a complete defense verdict from a Los Angeles jury in ReactX LLC v. Google LLC.  ReactX sought $1.3 billion in damages, alleging that Google breached a series of contracts by misusing ReactX’s confidential technology to build two of Google’s most successful digital advertising products. ReactX originally brought the case as one for trade secret misappropriation, but just two weeks before trial, it voluntarily dismissed its trade secret cause of action. The court further trimmed ReactX’s lawsuit in response to nonsuit motions brought by Wilson Sonsini, ruling that Google was bound by only one of the contracts asserted by ReactX and dismissing ReactX’s cause of action for breach of the implied covenant of good faith and fair dealing. After a six-week trial featuring 17 witnesses, the jury completely vindicated Google on ReactX’s remaining cause of action for breach of contract.

The Wilson Sonsini team representing Google in the matter was led by partners Colleen Bal, John Flynn, Tait Graves, Josh Baskin, and Lucy Yen, and included Andrew Alderette, Stephanie Cheng, Kayla Dessel, Katherine Ericson, Celine Liu, Sachli Nayeri, Courtney Reed, Matt Donohue, Doug Brockmeier, Sissel Browder, Shannon Hill, and Pamela Sandillo.

Race, Religion, and the Corporation: What Could Possibly Go Wrong?
Two Supreme Court decisions issued on June 29, 2023, promise to fundamentally reshape the relationship between employers and employees. These decisions will make it easier for employees to obtain religious accommodations, and harder for employers to promote diversity. In Groff v. DeJoy, the Court held that Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 requires that employers grant religious accommodations unless doing so imposes a “substantial” hardship on the employer. This standard is significantly more burdensome for employers than the pre-existing de minimis burden test, and could lead to a sharp increase in demands for religious accommodations. In cases against Harvard and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the Court ruled that the universities’ affirmative action admissions programs violate the Constitution’s equal protection clause. The decision effectively ends race-conscious admissions programs, and leaves many businesses concerned about the legality of race-based preferences in hiring, promotions, and contracting. Republican state attorneys general have already sent a letter to CEOs of the 100 largest U.S. companies arguing that the decision also applies to private employers in an effort to force employers to roll back DEI programs and commitments.

This two-day program, focusing on trade secret law, will examine some of an organization’s most valuable assets, from cutting-edge technologies to profit-enhancing improvements and beyond. The second half-day session will be a more in-depth analysis of trade secrets litigation, mega-verdicts, and recent federal enforcement of restrictive covenant agreements deemed to be violations of the antitrust laws. The panels will include esteemed judges, in-house counsel, representatives from government agencies, and top practitioners examining both the plaintiff and defense side of the law. IP lawyers, employment lawyers, general counsel, and executives should attend.
