Joshua Baskin is a partner in the San Francisco office of Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, where he maintains a leading trial practice. Josh has significant jury trial experience in state and federal courts across the country, including in trade secret, trademark, and commercial contract trials. In just the past few years, Josh obtained a complete defense verdict in a trade secret jury trial in California state court in which the plaintiff sought over a billion dollars, won a directed verdict in a trademark infringement trial on behalf of the defendant where the parties shared the same name, and obtained a multimillion-dollar verdict from a federal jury in a breach of contract action.

Josh is a cutting-edge talent in marshalling complex facts and incorporating them into trial presentations. He has a complete command of modern trial technology and uses it to streamline trial preparation and communicate to courts and juries.

In addition to his trial practice, Josh is deeply committed to pro bono work. He has taken on several high-impact pro bono cases addressing environmental protection issues.

During law school, Josh served as a judicial extern to the Honorable Susan Y. Illston of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California and to the Honorable Marla J. Miller of the California Superior Court of San Francisco. In addition, he interned at both the Federal Trade Commission and the San Francisco City Attorney's Office.

  • Rex Real Estate I, L.P. v. Rex Real Estate Exchange, Inc., (W.D. Tex.) – won a directed verdict for the defense in trademark case where plaintiff and defendant shared the same name
  • G.P.P., Inc. d/b/a Guardian Innovative Solutions, Inc. v. Guardian Protection Products, Inc.  (E.D. Cal.) – won a significant monetary recovery after jury trial in a commercial contract dispute
  • Blackman v. Substack, et al. (San Francisco Superior Court) – defeated request for temporary restraining order and won anti-SLAPP motion dismissing case on the pleadings. Recovered fees on behalf of Substack.
  • Alphonso Inc. v. Tremor Video, Inc., (N.D. Cal.) – defeated motion for preliminary injunction for trade secret misappropriation after which plaintiff voluntarily dropped its case
