Eric Tuttle is a seasoned litigator with broad experience tackling the most difficult problems clients face. He is a graduate of Caltech with a background in machine learning who combines deep technical expertise with sophisticated legal acumen. He specializes in untangling complex factual and legal issues to get the best results for clients, who have ranged across many industries including the technology, entertainment, financial, and arts sectors. He has secured wins for Google in patent litigation, a major financial institution in litigation over investments in mortgage-backed securities, and the Norton Simon Museum in litigation over two panel paintings by Lucas Cranach the Elder—the last of which resulted in a California Lawyer Attorneys of the Year award. 

Eric has tried a diverse range of cases to verdict. His industry and technical subject matter experience informs his ability to build trust and foster highly productive collaborations within a client’s key functions, from scientists, engineers, and product developers to senior executives and board members. Clients value his ability to explain complicated issues to juries and judges, a skill honed through his unique credentials and years of experience working with cutting-edge technologies.

Prior to joining Wilson Sonsini, Eric was a litigation partner in the Los Angeles office of Munger, Tolles & Olson LLP.

After earning his degree at Stanford Law School, Eric clerked for the Honorable Pamela Ann Rymer of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.

  • Secured a victory for Zillow in litigation brought by real estate brokerage Compass accusing Zillow of conspiracy and monopolizing the market for online home search; defeated Compass’s preliminary injunction motion after a weeklong hearing, after which Compass dismissed its claims
  • Secured a complete jury victory for Inhibrx Biosciences and co-founder Dr. Brendan Eckelman in a high-stakes trade secrets case that Wilson Sonsini took on as lead counsel just six weeks before trial. I-Mab Biopharma alleged our clients misappropriated trade secrets when Dr. Eckelman served as an expert witness in an international arbitration. The jury returned a full defense verdict, finding that I-Mab had not proved any of its information was a protected trade secret or that Inhibrx or Dr. Eckelman misappropriated any of it, and awarding zero of the over $450 million in damages that I-Mab had sought.
