In May 2020, Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati was awarded the California Lawyer Attorneys of the Year (CLAY) Award by the Daily Journal. The CLAY awards recognize California attorneys whose work made a significant impact during the previous year.
Wilson Sonsini was recognized in the capital markets category for its successful work on Lyft’s initial public offering—one of the first “unicorns” to announce plans to go public in 2019. The Daily Journal’s accompanying profile identified Wilson Sonsini team members Katharine (Katie) Martin, partner and chair of Wilson Sonsini’s board of directors, and partners Rezwan Pavri, Lisa Stimmell, and for their role advising Lyft in the offering.
In the profile, Katie discusses the challenge of maintaining a high level of secrecy about Lyft’ plans. “Until the company was ready to say something, everyone was very, very focused on maintaining confidentiality.” Katie also discussed the additional challenge of the 2018-2019 federal government shutdown. “I thought at first it would throw a bigger twist into the deal than it eventually did…In the end, we maintained our timeline and kept moving forward.”
