Waqas Shahid is senior counsel in the Washington, D.C., office of Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, where his practice focuses on advising domestic and foreign clients in regulatory, investigative, compliance, and enforcement matters related to national security. 

Waqas has over 15 years of experience advising clients on national security, international trade compliance, and cybersecurity compliance issues as both in-house and outside counsel, as well as in a consulting capacity. He has advised clients in a variety of areas (including CFIUS, export controls, sanctions compliance, data privacy, and cybersecurity compliance) and in a variety of contexts (M&A, compliance investigations, internal compliance program operations, mitigations, and technology implementations).

Prior to joining the firm, Waqas founded and led national security-related consulting practices at two leading global consulting firms and was a senior attorney at a leading Aerospace & Defense firm. Prior to practicing as an attorney, Waqas worked as a software engineer and consultant at an enterprise technology start-up.  

Waqas is practicing virtually from New Jersey and is admitted in the District of Columbia. He is not admitted in New Jersey and therefore not authorized to practice law in New Jersey.

On May 28, 2026, Credo Technology Group Holding Ltd (Credo), an innovator in providing connectivity at scale through fast, reliable, and energy-efficient system solutions, announced that it has completed its acquisition of DustPhotonics in a transaction valued up to $1.3 billion. DustPhotonics brings industry-leading silicon photonics photonic integrated circuit (SiPho PIC) technology for optical connectivity, deepening Credo’s optical interconnect portfolio across 800G, 1.6T, and 3.2T near-packaged optics (NPO) and co-packaged optics (CPO).
