On April 9, 2015, the Wilson Sonsini Foundation was honored with Bay Area Legal Aid's "Champion of Justice" award for its "unparalleled commitment to expanding equal access to justice for the poor." The award was presented by Bay Area Legal Aid Development Chair Bob Van Nest to Wilson Sonsini Community Affairs Manager Gail McFall at a cocktail party that took place at Keker & Van Nest in San Francisco. Wilson Sonsini partner David Steuer currently serves on Bay Area Legal Aid's board of directors.
Since 2000, the Wilson Sonsini Foundation has provided significant financial support to Bay Area Legal Aid, the largest provider of free civil legal services in the San Francisco Bay Area, which serves 70,000 low-income people each year. Wilson Sonsini has handled more than 30 Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) matters in association with Bay Area Legal Aid since the program's inception.
