On February 12, 2020, Digital Surgery, a privately held pioneer in surgical artificial intelligence, data analytics, and digital education and training, announced its sale to Medtronic, a global leader in medical technology. Financial terms of the acquisition have not been disclosed. Wilson Sonsini served as U.S. legal counsel to Digital Surgery in collaboration with London-based law firm Taylor Wessing, which served as UK counsel in the transaction.
Digital Surgery will strengthen the Medtronic robotic assisted surgery platform and will become part of the Minimally Invasive Therapies Group within the Medtronic portfolio. Digital Surgery will remain headquartered in London where there are plans for continued investment and workforce expansion. The company’s executive team, including the two surgeon co-founders, Dr. Andre Chow and Dr. Jean Nehme, will remain in place and continue to provide leadership.
