On January 16, 2025, Origen Power, a UK-based limestone-based carbon removal provider, announced that it has secured $13 million in Series A funding round led by Barclays Climate Ventures. Shell Ventures, Exascale Fund, Elemental Impact, and Hatch also participated in the round. Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati advised Origen on the transaction.
Funds from the financing will be used to scale Origen's direct air capture (DAC) technology and invest in research at its Bristol-based technology and research center. Origen's differentiated method of DAC uses its proprietary technology to leverage the natural properties of limestone to absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. The company recently announced a partnership with the Energy and Environmental Research Center to capture 1,000 tons of carbon dioxide per year at a facility being built in North Dakota.
The Wilson Sonsini team that advised Origen on the transaction includes Michael Labriola, Ashmi Bhagani, Dan Glazer, and Martin Luff.
