Wilson Sonsini Honored with NLADA 2025 Beacon of Justice Award
On August 14, 2025, the National Legal Aid & Defender Association (NLADA) announced that Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati is among 30 firms that will be honored with the 2025 Beacon of Justice Award, which recognizes honorees for their efforts to advance equal justice for families and communities.
Through innovative pro bono work, the 2025 Beacon of Justice honorees have demonstrated how legal advocacy can create meaningful, lasting change for individuals, families, and communities. All 2025 Beacon Award winners are being recognized based on their 2024 pro bono achievements.

Firm Partners with ACLU of Louisiana to Resolve Lawsuit Alleging Discriminatory Policing
On August 20, 2024, it was announced that a settlement has been reached between American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Louisiana Justice Lab client Ms. Jacinta Danks, the City of Kenner, Louisiana, and Mr. Chase Lawler, a Kenner Police Department officer. The case is part of the Justice Lab’s broader effort to end discriminatory and violent policing against people of color. Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati provided pro bono representation to Ms. Danks in the matter, in collaboration with co-counsel.
Ms. Danks alleged that on October 10, 2020, she was in the passenger seat of a car being driven by her brother when a Kenner police officer pulled them over for a traffic violation. While the police engaged with her brother outside the car, Ms. Danks remained in the passenger seat with her hands visible. Despite this, officers violently pulled her from the car and threw her to the ground. Ms. Danks claimed Officer Lawler then stepped on her back, pinning her to the pavement while she was face down.

Luke Liss Honored with DEI Change Agent Award at 2023 Everlaw Summit
On October 11, 2023, Wilson Sonsini pro bono partner Luke Liss was recognized as the winner of the DEI Change Agent Award at the 2023 Everlaw Summit held in San Francisco. The DEI Change Agent award recognizes those demonstrating a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion by mentoring the next generation of legal professionals. More broadly, the Everlaw Summit Awards highlight the inspiring work of innovative legal professionals in tech enablement, organizational transformation, and innovative breakthroughs across the industry.
In addition to being named as an award winner at the summit, Luke spoke on a panel titled, “Supporting Diversity in the Legal Profession, but for Real." The panel featured leaders at in-house legal departments, law firms, and government agencies committed to diversifying the profession sharing actionable strategies that help achieve tangible results.

Firm Partners with ACLU of Louisiana to Call for Investigation into Lack of Counsel Access
On Thursday, October 20, 2022, the ACLU of Louisiana and Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati sent a letter to the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) calling for an investigation into the lack of access to counsel within Louisiana’s prison system. The letter notes that interviews with local public defenders uncovered that jails throughout the state have denied incarcerated people access to counsel in alleged violation of both the United States Constitution and Louisiana law.
