Wilson Sonsini is pleased to host the third session in our “Clinical AI and Health Tech: An Inflection Point” webinar series, featuring special guests Frank B. Meyers from the Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB) and Shannon Curtis from the American Medical Association (AMA).
As AI takes on functions traditionally performed by licensed clinicians, it raises questions that state laws governing the practice of medicine were not written to answer. Building on our October 21 regulatory overview, Frank and Shannon will join Wilson Sonsini healthcare regulatory attorneys Andrea Linna and Nawa Lodin to examine how existing state laws apply to AI-enabled care delivery models, including:
Frank is director of regulatory innovation and member services at FSMB, whose membership includes all 69 medical boards of the United States and its territories. He will share the state medical board perspective on how regulators are responding to clinical AI.
Shannon is senior director of digital health and AI policy at the AMA, where she works on federal policy affecting physicians, including the regulation of healthcare AI. She will share the physician perspective on how AI should be governed, including the AMA’s views on physician oversight, transparency, and shared responsibility between developers and clinicians.
In addition to hearing from our guests, attendees will leave with a clearer understanding of where state practice-of-medicine rules constrain AI-enabled care delivery and where the law remains unsettled.
This ongoing series examines the legal and regulatory questions shaping clinical AI. Recordings of earlier sessions can be accessed here.
