Sebastian received his Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where his doctoral research focused on developing gene editing systems for conservation applications.

Prior to his doctoral education, Sebastian worked in industry on antibody technologies and molecular engineering, as well as in an academic endocrinology lab.
