Talin Gordnia is senior counsel at Wilson Sonsini, where she is a member of the patent litigation practice. Talin focuses on patent infringement and trade secret disputes, and has substantial experience representing plaintiffs and defendants in a variety of complex technology areas including semiconductors, computer networking, consumer electronics, enterprise and security software, cellular standards, artificial intelligence, and medical devices. She has experience handling all aspects of patent infringement suits, from the investigation phase through trial and has handled oral arguments in inter partes reviews before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board, including as first chair. Prior to practicing law, Talin was an electrical engineer for Northrop Grumman where she worked on communication satellite payloads and held a security clearance. Talin draws on her experience as a practicing engineer to understand her clients' technologies and translate them into concepts that resonate with juries and jurists. 

She is a founding member of the Women of Wilson (WoW) affinity group and manages the WoW Client Speaker Series where Wilson Sonsini attorneys interview firm clients regarding their career path and current legal issues. Talin also maintains a pro bono practice and is active in the local intellectual property community.  She is on the planning committee for the annual USC IP Institute and serves as co-chair of the Los Angeles chapter of ChIPs, which she co-founded in 2019.

Select Matters

  • DatacCore Software Corporation v. Scale Computing, Inc. (D. Del): Successfully defended Scale in a patent infringement action resulting in a complete defendant-side verdict after a one-week trial. The jury found that Scale did not infringe DataCore’s patent and found the patent invalid. Talin managed the case through fact and expert discovery, claim construction and pretrial briefing, and took the depositions of the plaintiff’s key witnesses.
  • Innobrilliance, LLC v. Arlo Technologies, Inc. (D. Del.): Secured a dismissal with prejudice on behalf of Arlo in a patent infringement suit.  Talin and the Wilson Sonsini team litigated the case through the early stages of discovery before the plaintiff voluntarily dismissed the case with prejudice. 
  • Dental Monitoring v. Get-Grin, Inc. (D. Del.): Defending international company Get-Grin in multi-patent infringement suit relating to remote dental services and AI.
  • CF Traverse LLC v. Amprius, Inc. (N.D. Cal. and PTAB): Defended Amprius in a six-patent infringement suit involving high-capacity electrodes and energy storage technology. After transferring the case from D. Del. to N.D. Cal., Talin worked with the PTAB team to file IPRs on four of the asserted patents and moved for a stay shortly after filing the IPR Petitions. The Court granted the stay and the case settled shortly thereafter on favorable terms for Amprius.
  • Finjan, LLC v. Qualys Inc. (N.D. Cal.): Defended Qualys in a patent infringement suit involving seven patents related to cybersecurity software. The case settled on terms favorable to Qualys.
  • InterDigital Technology Corp. v. Lenovo Holding Company, Inc. (D. Del.): Represented InterDigital in a multi-patent litigation involving InterDigital’s patents relating to 3G and 4G cellular standards.
  • Nomadix, Inc. v. MikroTikls (C.D. Cal.): Defended international company MikroTikls in a multi-patent infringement suit relating to mobile network access technology. The case settled on favorable terms for MikroTikls. Talin was instrumental in counseling the overseas defendant in U.S. Patent Laws and Civil Procedure, and in guiding the case to settlement.
  • Opus One Corp. v. Telescope Inc. (C.D. Cal.): Defended Telescope (subsidiary of Bally’s Corporation) in a patent infringement suit relating to software for managing contests. The case settled on terms favorable for Telescope following mediation with the magistrate judge.
  • TiVo Patent Litigation (E.D. Tex.): Represented TiVo in patent litigation against AT&T, Verizon, and Motorola Mobility resulting in over $1 billion in settlements.*
  • Palo Alto Networks, Inc. v. Juniper Networks, Inc. (D. Del., PTAB and N.D. Cal.): Trial counsel for Juniper in patent suit alleging infringement by inventors of Juniper patents covering firewall and network security technologies who had left Juniper to start a competing company. The seven-day trial resulted in a mistrial when the jury could not reach a unanimous verdict. The case settled for $175 million prior to the retrial.*
  • Chrimar Systems, Inc. v. Juniper Networks, Inc. (N.D. Cal. and PTAB): Defended Juniper in four-patent suit involving ethernet equipment technology. After transferring the case from E.D. Tex. to N.D. Cal., Talin served as lead counsel for Juniper’s four IPRs that resulted in the PTAB finding that the challenged claims were invalid. The Federal Circuit affirmed.*
