  • Focus on Artificial Intelligence

    Roberto advises leading AI providers on compliance with the EU AI Act and has represented AI companies in regulatory investigations by data protection authorities.

  • Expertise in EU Data Regulations

    Roberto has guided a designated gatekeeper through complex compliance matters under the EU Digital Markets Act and the EU Digital Services Act.

  • Regulatory Defense Success

    Roberto has successfully defended companies in high-stakes proceedings before data protection authorities, including securing the closure of an investigation into a platform with over 100 million users—without any penalty, despite an initial notice of intent to fine.

Roberto Yunquera Sehwani is an associate in the Brussels office of Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, where his practice focuses on privacy, data protection, and EU data regulations.

Roberto advises companies on complying with data regulatory requirements, including the EU Artificial Intelligence Act (AI Act), the Digital Markets Act (DMA), and the EU Digital Services Act (DSA). He has experience designing innovative compliance solutions concerning the training of generative AI models, or for compliance with data collection and sharing, transparency, and consent requirements. He also provides strategic guidance on upcoming legislative initiatives in the EU.

Roberto regularly advises companies of all sizes on the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and e-privacy and cybersecurity laws. His experience includes advising and defending companies in investigations by EU data protection authorities (e.g., advising on strategy, drafting submissions to regulators), responding in the event of a data breach or security incident, and assisting in litigation across the EU.

He has designed GDPR compliance projects for companies covering:

  • Implementing strategies for international data transfers;
  • Drafting and negotiating data processing agreements and other contractual arrangements;
  • Drafting internal data handling policies and privacy policies;
  • Developing processes to comply with individuals' rights;
  • Conducting data protection impact assessments; and
  • Implementing privacy-by-design and privacy-by-default features.

Roberto advises on cutting-edge regulatory and privacy issues in the tech, AI, financial, payments and open banking, social media, advertising (adtech), life sciences, and pharmaceuticals sectors, among others.

Prior to joining the firm, Roberto completed a traineeship at the Council of the European Union’s Legal Service, where he focused on constitutional affairs, Brexit, electoral law, e-privacy, and e-evidence. He also assisted in litigation matters before the EU Court of Justice.

Roberto is a native Spanish speaker and is fluent in English and French.

GDPR and DMA: A Discussion Among Privacy Professionals About the Digital Markets Act
Wilson Sonsini privacy and cybersecurity partner Laura De Boel and associate Roberto Yunquera Sehwani are delighted to invite you to join your privacy peers for an informal benchmarking discussion on the privacy implications of the new EU Digital Markets Act (DMA).  The DMA is set to have a big impact on gatekeeper’s data collection and data sharing practices.
