Richard represents both international and local China companies, including those that have been listed on Nasdaq or HKEX and those that are still being funded and growing quickly. As counsel for prestigious VC firms as well as for public offerings, Richard’s experience helps his start-up clients prepare for financing or listing from an early stage. Further, his roots in local China business and Chinese culture are valuable assets for his international clients to explore business opportunities in China.
For over two decades, Richard has worked closely with innovators in the U.S., China, and beyond that are engaged in highly technical fields—including CRISPR, cell therapy, immunotherapeutics, medical devices, pharmaceuticals, and stem cells—to develop successful patents and IP strategies.
Richard Wang is a China partner in the Shanghai office of Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, where he is a member of the patents and innovations practice. His practice includes patent preparation and prosecution, opinion work, freedom-to-operate and due-diligence studies, technology licensing, and litigation strategy.
Prior to joining the firm, Richard was a partner at NTD Patent and Trademark Agency Ltd., where his practice focused on consulting clients in the chemical, biological, and pharmaceutical industries, and representing clients before the Chinese Patent Office, Patent Re-examination Board, and courts. He was also previously an intern for Pfizer, Inc., in California, where he helped prosecute U.S. patent applications, supported R&D, and provided opinions to business units.
Richard is a native Mandarin speaker and is fluent in English.
