Matthew Chang is an associate in the Palo Alto office of Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati. Matthew represents clients in employment and trade secret litigation matters and counsels clients on pre-litigation matters that arise under federal, state, and local employment laws.
Prior to joining the firm, Matthew was an Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) in the Criminal Division of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of California. As an AUSA, Matthew investigated and prosecuted federal criminal offenses involving cybercrime, healthcare fraud, wire fraud, child exploitation, and drug offenses. Further, he honed his litigation skills through motion practice and oral argument. Matthew also co-chaired a two-week federal jury trial wherein the government obtained all guilty convictions.
Previously, Matthew was an attorney advisor with the U.S. Department of Justice’s Executive Office for Immigration Review, Office of the General Counsel’s Employment and Labor Relations Unit where he entered through the Attorney General’s Honors Program. In that role, he advised senior management officials on employment matters, and further litigated and mediated employment claims before federal administrative bodies.
Earlier in his career, Matthew was a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Ivan L.R. Lemelle in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana.
Prior to attending law school, Matthew worked as a high school special education teacher and IEP case manager through Teach for America.
In addition to English, Matthew is fluent in Mandarin Chinese.
