Catherine Johnson is environmental counsel at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, where her practice focuses on environmental matters including mergers and acquisitions and real estate transactions.

Prior to joining Wilson Sonsini, Catherine founded an environmental boutique law firm based in the Bay Area, which was recognized by Chambers USA for its environmental practice. Previously, she was an equity shareholder with Hanson Bridgett, a San Francisco-based law firm, and with Wendel Rosen Black & Dean, an Oakland-based law firm.

Catherine has experience in a broad range of matters, including transactions, Proposition 65, extended producer responsibility (EPR) programs, remediation and cleanups, vapor intrusion, regulatory compliance, and enforcement actions.

Catherine represented the Port of Oakland in the proposed development of a terminal into a stadium and mixed-use project for the Oakland Athletics. She landed a victory for her client in a landmark CERCLA case before the Ninth Circuit, U.S. v. Chapman, which has been cited by courts in hundreds of cases and was the subject of a law review article. More recently, she defended a Proposition 65 case in state court, which was hailed in the national press as one of the first instances of a successful Proposition 65 defense.

Catherine serves on the Advisory Board of the Executive Committee of the Environmental Section of the Bar Association of San Francisco and on the Advisory Board of Proposition 65 Clearinghouse News.
