Wilson Sonsini Recognized as a 2023 Law360 “California Powerhouse”
Wilson Sonsini was honored as a 2023 “California Powerhouse” by Law360 as part of the publication’s 2023 Regional Powerhouses series. Overall, Law360 recognized firms handling some of the biggest deals and high-profile courtroom battles across 11 states, offering clients regional expertise and making a lasting impact on the law at the state and local levels. The six 2023 California Powerhouses have scored billion-dollar settlements in large class actions, won victories against drug companies that contributed to the opioid epidemic, and managed significant deals.
The accompanying profile highlights some of the work that landed Wilson Sonsini a spot on the list, including advising Twitter—now doing business as X—on Elon Musk’s $44 billion bid to buy the company, guiding ForgeRock’s $2.3 billion acquisition by Thoma Bravo, scoring victories for Hulu and Disney+ in cases related to franchise fees, helping Dropbox avoid a securities class action, and scoring a $43 million settlement for Vanessa Bryant.
“[Being named a Regional Powerhouse two years in a row] doesn't come as a surprise, given our reputation for excellence in all aspects of the practice, when you look at our brands and our culture, our exciting and innovative clients, and our excellent attorneys,” said Allison Spinner, head of the firm's corporate department. “I was very pleased that we received the recognition again this year.”
Law360 notes that Wilson Sonsini has built a reputation for being a go-to firm for handling transaction deals and litigation in the technology field, given that the tech industry and Wilson Sonsini have grown up together. “I think it's just our established brand and legacy and our history of building, advising, and representing clients from start-ups to established public companies and helping them along the way,” Caz Hashemi, head of the firm's litigation department, told Law360. “That really helped us become the largest firm and develop a strong reputation for excellence.” He notes that the clients are what makes the work interesting and satisfying, saying, “We have disruptive and innovative clients looking to grow. They bring unique issues, sometimes issues of first impression in particular, in the litigation area that makes it exciting and engaging work.”
