On November 5, 2020, Wilson Sonsini was honored at the Diversity & Flexibility Alliance’s annual conference as a 2020 “Tipping the Scales” firm. The Diversity & Flexibility Alliance recognized 46 firms for having 50 percent or more women in their 2020 U.S.-based new partner class.
The firms were identified through the Alliance’s New Partner Report, a yearly compilation of data from more than 100 of the nation’s largest and top-grossing law firms examining the gender breakdown of attorneys promoted to partnership in their U.S. offices. The data is based upon publicly available firm announcements and other self-reported sources on new partner classes. This year’s report revealed that 40.9 percent of new partners in 137 major U.S. law firms were women in 2020, a slight dip from 41.3 percent last year. The Alliance notes that by promoting equal numbers of men and women to partner, the 46 “Tipping the Scales” firms have signaled their commitment to gender parity and their understanding of the value that women in leadership brings to each firm and their clients.
