Wilson Sonsini Adds Joshua Gruenspecht to National Security Practice
Press Releases
February 22, 2018

- Gruenspecht Joins as Of Counsel, Based in the Firm's Washington, D.C., Office -

PALO ALTO, CA (February 22, 2018) - Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, the premier provider of legal services to technology, life sciences, and growth enterprises worldwide, announced today that Joshua Gruenspecht has joined the firm's national security regulatory practice as Of Counsel in the Washington, D.C., office.

Gruenspecht advises clients in the telecommunications, technology, media, and defense sectors in transactional, regulatory, and litigation matters. He routinely represents domestic businesses and foreign entities before the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS), Defense Security Service (DSS), Federal Communications Commission (FCC), federal defense and intelligence agencies, state utilities commissions, and other government bodies on national security, cybersecurity, and communications matters. He has negotiated security agreements, information sharing agreements, and network and physical security plans and policies with CFIUS, DSS, the FCC, and various other federal agencies.

"Today's global technology enterprises continue to confront crucial questions at the intersection of cybersecurity and national security," said Doug Clark, managing partner at Wilson Sonsini. "Our clients will immediately benefit from Josh's background and experience on a range of these critical matters, from drafting and negotiating strong security agreements to representing clients before key regulatory bodies. We're pleased to welcome him to our firm."

Gruenspecht joins Wilson Sonsini from the Washington, D.C., office of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP. Previously he was a Cybersecurity Fellow with the Center for Democracy and Technology. Prior to law school, he worked as an engineer engaged in network security research and development for the federal government and BBN Technologies, focusing on device exploitation and computer network exploitation.

Gruenspecht has been listed in The Legal 500 U.S. in the areas of Telecom and Broadcast: Regulatory and Transactional. He earned his J.D. from Harvard Law School in 2010, and he received a B.S. from Yale University in 2002. Gruenspecht is admitted to practice in Maryland and the District of Columbia.

Wilson Sonsini's national security practice advises clients ranging from large multinational companies to small start-ups on national security issues, notably the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States, technology transactions, export controls and economic sanctions, cyber security, corruption and bribery, and privacy and data protection. The firm's attorneys have deep experience in the national security community and counsel clients on all aspects of national security issues, including advising on various government licensing requirements; assisting with obtaining required government authorizations; and representing clients throughout government inquiries and investigations, board investigations, mergers and acquisitions, and congressional inquiries.

Gruenspecht is the second senior-level attorney to join Wilson Sonsini's national security practice in recent months. In late 2017, the firm announced that Stephen Heifetz had joined Wilson Sonsini as a partner. In addition to serving in several federal regulatory and national security agencies, Heifetz played a key role in developing laws and regulations related to CFIUS as a senior official in the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Office of Policy Development.
