On August 16, 2017, the Daily Journal named Vern Norviel to its 2017 list of the "Top Intellectual Property Lawyers" in California. The publication created the annual list of the state’s leading patent, trademark, and copyright lawyers after reviewing nominations from members of the legal community and its own editors and reporters.
Vern was recognized for his "three decades' experience formulating successful strategies for life science companies and developing their intellectual property programs." Among his many successes, Vern was noted for his work as lead patent counsel for Delinia, a privately held biotechnology company developing novel therapeutics for autoimmune diseases, in its $775 million agreement to be acquired by pharmaceutical heavyweight Celgene Corp. in January 2017.
