Matt Christiansen, an attorney with Wilson Sonsini and former general counsel of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), was quoted in a recent POLITICO E&E News article discussing FERC's recent decision to close its policy office under the Trump-ordered Reorganization and Reduction in Force plan. The Office of Energy Policy and Innovation will be shifting its focus from coordinating new policies and rules to writing reports and hosting technical conferences, among other duties. The office will also be re-branded as the Office of Technical Reporting and Economics.
Matt is unconvinced that these changes to the office will have a big impact, though he remains cautious considering the recent wider government cuts by the administration. "A rose by any other name would smell as sweet, and this sounds like renaming the rose," said Matt.
