On August 6, 2015, The American Lawyer's Litigation Daily named Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati partner Michael Sommer its "Litigator of the Week," based on his representation of Mylan in a dispute related to a hostile takeover bid by Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. According to Litigation Daily, the approach taken by the firm's team, which was led by Michael, "gave Mylan an advantage that its opponents never managed to overcome."
On April 27, 2015, Mylan's board of directors rejected Teva's unsolicited offer to buy Mylan NV for more than $40 billion. Teva continued to pursue Mylan until late July, when Teva dropped its bid and, instead, announced a $40.5 billion acquisition of Allergan plc's generics business.
Michael is a partner in the New York office of Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati. His practice focuses on white collar criminal defense, internal investigations, and Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) enforcement defense, as well as complex commercial litigation and antitrust litigation. He is a Fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers.
