On March 20, 2026, Wilson Sonsini partner Jad Mills was elected to the board of directors of the PTAB Bar Association and senior counsel Richard Torczon was appointed to Chair of the organization’s Trials Committee. The PTAB Bar Association is committed to preserving and promoting the professional and ethical standards of lawyers and stakeholders who appear before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB).
Jad's practice focuses on proceedings before the PTAB under the America Invents Act and related federal court proceedings. He has experience in a wide variety of technology areas, including life sciences, pharmaceuticals, peptide chemistry, gene sequencing, diagnostics, medical devices, and electronic systems. Jad previously served as Vice Chair of the organization's Conference Committee.
Richard has nearly 35 years of experience dealing with the PTAB. He has worked on patent interferences and appeals and has authored more than a thousand opinions and orders on patent appeals, petitions, motions, and briefs. Richard has experience in the full spectrum of technologies reviewed by the PTAB, including computer-based inventions, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, chemicals and medical devices, and plant and design patents.
