Wilson Sonsini Advises on Patent Matters Related to Verona’s FDA Approval
On June 26, 2024, Verona Pharma announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved Ohtuvayre (ensifentrine) for the maintenance treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in adult patients. Ohtuvayre is the first inhaled product with a novel mechanism of action available for the maintenance treatment of COPD in more than 20 years. Wilson Sonsini Advises Quince Therapeutics on Patent Matters Related to EryDel SpA Acquisition
On October 23, 2023, Quince Therapeutics, Inc., a late-stage biotechnology company developing an innovative drug delivery technology that leverages a patient’s own biology to deliver rare disease therapeutics, announced the successful completion of its acquisition of EryDel S.p.A., a privately-held, late-stage biotech company. Quince’s newly acquired Phase 3 lead asset, EryDex, targets a rare neurodegenerative disease, Ataxia-Telangiectasia (A-T). Currently, there are no approved treatments for A-T and the market represents a $1+ billion estimated peak sales opportunity globally. EryDex utilizes a highly differentiated and proprietary technology platform for autologous intracellular drug encapsulation (AIDE), which is designed to optimize the biodistribution of dexamethasone sodium phosphate (DSP; a pro-drug) by using an A-T patient’s own red blood cells to deliver the sustained therapeutic over a once monthly treatment period.

On May 16, 2023, Boundless Bio, a clinical-stage, next-generation precision oncology company developing innovative therapeutics directed against extrachromosomal DNA (ecDNA) for patients with oncogene amplified cancers, announced the closing of a $100 million Series C financing. The financing was co-led by Leaps by Bayer, the impact investment arm of Bayer AG, and RA Capital Management, with participation from additional new investors Sectoral Asset Management and Piper Heartland Healthcare Capital.
