Firm Obtains Complete Jury Victory for Cyntec in Patent Validity Trial
On March 5, 2026, Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati secured a complete jury victory in a patent invalidity trial in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California on behalf of firm client Cyntec Company, Ltd. Rejecting defendant Chilisin’s arguments on obviousness, the jury found that all asserted claims of Cyntec’s U.S. Patent Nos. 8,922,312 and 9,481,037 were valid. Wilson Sonsini also represented Cyntec in a previous jury trial which had found that Chilisin willfully infringed both patents and imposed a 5 percent royalty.

Wilson Sonsini Secures Complete Jury Trial Victory for Via Transportation
On January 30, 2025, firm client and microtransit leader Via won a complete victory against its competitor, RideCo, following a seven-day jury trial and years of litigation in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas. After less than 3 hours of deliberation, the jury found that RideCo infringed three of Via’s patents on its virtual bus stop technology (U.S. Patent Nos. 9,562,785, 9,816,824, and 10,197,411) and ordered RideCo to pay damages, with total pretrial and ongoing damages to be determined. Via also prevailed against RideCo’s counterclaims, with the jury finding that Via did not infringe either of RideCo’s two asserted patents.

Firm Secures Summary Judgment for Thermal Shipping Solutions in Patent Litigation
On December 15, 2024, a Wilson Sonsini patent litigation team secured a summary judgment victory for client Thermal Shipping Solutions based on recent Federal Circuit case law interpreting patent invalidity under the America Invents Act (AIA). This decision is one of the first in the nation to address the “public disclosure” and “derivation” exceptions under 35 U.S.C. § 102.

On November 1, 2024, a federal jury in Delaware unanimously returned a verdict for Wilson Sonsini clients Inhibrx Biosciences and Dr. Brendan Eckelman. Inhibrx and its co-founder, Dr. Eckelman, are at the forefront of developing innovative therapies to combat cancer using the body’s own immune system. Wilson Sonsini Secures Complete Victory for Scale Computing in Patent Infringement Trial
On August 22, 2024, Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati secured a complete jury victory in a patent infringement trial in the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware on behalf of firm client Scale Computing, Inc. Following a four-day trial, the jury unanimously found that Scale Computing’s accused products, including the Scale Computing Platform and its Scale Computing Reliable Independent Block Engine (SCRIBE), did not directly or indirectly infringe DataCore Software Corp.’s data storage patent (U.S. Patent No. 9,344,235). The jury also found all of DataCore’s asserted claims invalid as anticipated by the prior art.

Wilson Sonsini Secures Victory for Epistar in Patent Damages Trial
On September 15, 2023, Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati secured a complete jury victory in a patent damages trial in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California on behalf of firm client and plaintiff Epistar in Epistar Corp. v. Lowe’s Home Centers LLC, No. 17-cv-3219-JAK. Following a three-day jury trial, the jury returned a complete victory for Epistar, awarding the requested running royalty rate of 4 percent and full royalty base that Epistar sought. Earlier in this case, another jury found each and every patent-in-suit both valid and infringed, findings that the trial court has already upheld.

Wilson Sonsini Secures Complete Jury Trial Victory for Cyntec in Patent Litigation
On September 1, 2021, Wilson Sonsini secured a complete trial victory for Taiwan-based semiconductor company Cyntec in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California when a jury unanimously found in favor of Cyntec in its patent dispute with Chilisin Electronic Corp.
Cyntec and Chilisin are two leading companies in the production of small, high-performance molding chokes (inductors). These chokes are critical to the operation of virtually all mobile devices, including smart phones, tablets, and laptops. The court found that Chilisin’s mixed-powder molded-type chokes used in smartphones, tablets, notebooks, and other compact-size electronics infringe two Cyntec patents, U.S. Patent Nos. 8,922,312 and U.S. Patent No. 9,481,037. The jury awarded Cyntec lost profits and also assessed a reasonable royalty at 5 percent. Importantly, the jury found that Chilisin’s infringement was willful, and that Chilisin has induced its customers to infringe through importation of accused products into the United States.
