Genoa Ventures led the funding round with participation from FusionX Ventures and Vertical Venture Partners and is complemented by two ongoing Small Business Innovation Research grants of $4 million from The National Human Genome Research Institute. Wilson Sonsini Advises Pascal on IP Matters Related to $8 Million Seed Round
On May 8, 2024, Pascal, a start-up developing high-efficiency climate-friendly heat pumps, air conditioners, and refrigerators based on solid refrigerants, introduced its novel technology and announced it has raised an $8 million seed round led by Engine Ventures, with Khosla Ventures and previous investor Blindspot Ventures participating. The funding will be used to productize Pascal’s low pressure, solid refrigerant-based system, conforming to commercial HVAC specifications. The company will also use the capital to expand its Boston-based team of mechanical engineers, chemists, and material scientists. Pascal launched from the Mason Group at Harvard University, a research group led by Jarad Mason in the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology that applies the tools of coordination chemistry, materials science, and nanotechnology to design materials that address science challenges in energy and medicine.

On November 2, 2021, Cambridge Epigenetix, a life sciences tools and technology company revolutionizing genome sequencing, announced the signing of an $88 million Series D financing, bringing the total funds raised to date to $146 million. Temasek led the Series D round with participation from new investors including Third Point and existing investors such as GV, New Science Ventures, Ahren Innovation Capital, and Sequoia. Wilson Sonsini Advises PacBio on Omniome Acquisition, Private Placement and Intended Collaboration Expansion with Invitae
On July 20, 2021, Pacific Biosciences of California (PacBio), a leading provider of high-quality, long-read sequencing platforms, announced that it has signed a definitive merger agreement to acquire Omniome, a San Diego-based company developing a highly differentiated, proprietary short-read sequencing platform capable of delivering high accuracy. Upon closing of the acquisition, PacBio will be uniquely positioned as the only company with both highly accurate long-read and short-read sequencing platforms. The company also announced two other transactions: a private placement for aggregate proceeds of approximately $300 million in connection with the proposed acquisition, and an intent to expand a multi-year collaboration with Invitae Corporation to develop a production-scale high-throughput HiFi sequencing platform to include the sequencing technology developed by Omniome.
