The accompanying profile highlights Gary's representation of Google before the Copyright Royalty Board in the Phonorecords IV rate-setting proceeding, which ended in a negotiated settlement of rates to be paid by interactive streaming services for the use of music. "The economics of the music industry need to change so that distributors can have a path to profitability, which will benefit all participants and not just a select few," says Gary, who thinks everyone should profit fairly.
