On May 17, 2023, Wilson Sonsini's Vern Norviel was honored as one of the top performing intellectual property attorneys working in patent litigation, trademark, and copyright by the Daily Journal in its latest special report, "Top Intellectual Property Lawyers 2023." The feature highlights Vern's career in intellectual property law mainly advising clients in the biotechnology industry.

Vern credits much of his success to the founder of several Silicon Valley companies, Alejandro Zaffaroni, who showed him the "ins and outs" of the field. It was through working with a passionate Zaffaroni on various projects in biotechnology that Vern realized the importance of the work. He has since counseled various high-profile companies including Verve Therapeutics, a biotechnology company focused on cardiovascular disease, and Good Therapeutics, an immuno-oncology company. For attorneys like him and others in the biotechnology field, Vern says, "It's a bit of a religion for us opposed to just work." With the practice continuing to grow, Vern notes his gratitude for being able "to work with all these smart people on things that are going to help treat cancer or other diseases. It makes you feel good to be going home."
