On April 1, 2026, litigation partner Colleen Bal was featured in Daily Journal’s special supplement of "Leading Commercial Litigators 2026." The accompanying profile highlights Colleen’s track record of jury trial victories at Wilson Sonsini, spotlighting her recent trial win for Google and victory for Guardian Innovative Solutions (GIS).
Colleen served as first-chair trial counsel for Google in its successful defense against claims from a digital advertising platform alleging that some of the company’s most successful digital advertising products were developed using stolen technology. The case earned a spot among Daily Journal's "Top Verdicts of 2025." "The plaintiff portrayed this as very much a paradigm of a betrayal story in which Google and the plaintiff had a relationship that ended," Colleen said. "But we highlighted Google's independent development of its ad tech on a different timeline from the plaintiff's, and we showed that the betrayal story doesn't work here. And the jury paid attention."
Colleen represented GIS, a family-owned distribution business, in a long-running federal case in a dispute stemming from terminated distribution. After securing an appellate win reversing erroneous summary judgment rulings following the initial trial, Colleen led the trial team to victory in a new trial, resulting in a $6 million jury verdict for GIS and over $4.3 million in attorney fees. "That was a long one," Colleen said. "A very long road, and a very satisfactory outcome."
