Jacobson Elected ABA Antitrust Section Chair
Press Releases
August 16, 2017

PALO ALTO, CA (August 16, 2017)--Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, the premier provider of legal services to technology, life sciences, and growth enterprises worldwide, today announced that Jonathan M. Jacobson, a partner in the firm's antitrust practice who is based in the New York office, has been elected Chair of the American Bar Association (ABA) Section of Antitrust Law. Jacobson's one-year term officially began on August 13, and it follows his term as Chair-Elect of the Antitrust Section, which he's held since August 2016.

The ABA Section of Antitrust Law is the leading professional organization for antitrust and competition law, trade regulation, consumer protection, and economics. Members include attorneys and non-lawyers from around the world working in private law firms, in-house counsel, non-profit organizations, consulting firms, federal, state, and international government agencies, as well as judges, professors, economists, and law students.

"Companies and other entities continue to face formidable challenges as they address competition and consumer protection issues in our global marketplace," Jacobson said. "A key element of the Antitrust Section's mission is to ensure the organization's members remain well-informed as to the associated policy issues and prepared as practitioners, and that charge is now more important than ever."

Considered one of the country's preeminent antitrust litigators, Jacobson has represented major corporate clients, including Coca-Cola, Google, American Express, Netflix, and Live Nation, in antitrust litigations, investigations, trials, and appeals. In 2016, he argued the closely watched Vitamin C appeal in what many consider to the largest-ever antitrust case involving Chinese companies, securing a Second Circuit decision reversing a previous $150 million judgment and dismissing the case on international comity grounds. Jacobson's work in the high-profile Vitamin C dispute earned him recognition as a "Competition MVP" from Law360 in 2016.

Jacobson also is a frequent speaker on antitrust issues, and he has written or edited numerous articles and books on antitrust topics, including exclusionary practices, merger enforcement, government and other civil litigation matters, and cartel enforcement. In 2002, he was appointed by Congress to serve on the Antitrust Modernization Commission, where he was responsible for reviewing and recommending potential changes to the nation's antitrust laws.

"In addition to distinguishing himself as a leading practitioner who has represented major corporate clients in high-stakes antitrust matters throughout the country, Jon has maintained a strong commitment to discussing substantive antitrust and competition issues," said Doug Clark, managing partner at Wilson Sonsini. "He is a tremendous asset to our firm and we're confident the members of the ABA's Antitrust Section will recognize Jon's commitment to fostering the professional development of practitioners throughout the antitrust bar."

Jacobson has been an officer in the ABA Antitrust Section since 2010. He also served as a council member of the organization from 2007 to 2010. He has also been involved in Antitrust Section publications, serving as editorial chair of Antitrust Law Developments (Sixth) and editorial co-chair of the Annual Review of Antitrust Law Developments.
