The Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and International Anti-Corruption Developments 2024
Affiliated Programs
Wednesday, April 10, 2024 - Thursday, April 11, 2024

PLI New York
New York, NY

Register for event

The Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (“FCPA”) is at the top of most companies’ key risk areas. The DOJ and SEC are committed to investigating violations and charging both companies and individuals. As more countries and international organizations ramp up their anti-corruption enforcement, the need for effective anti-corruption programs grows. This program, taught by a faculty of leading practitioners, in-house counsel, and government officials, will give you the knowledge and tools you need to spot the issues early, develop workable risk management processes, plan and manage investigations, and implement effective compliance programs.

  • A review of recent prosecutions and settlements by the DOJ and SEC
  • A review of recent government guidance on the corporate enforcement and compliance
  • Guidance on how to comply with the FCPA’s accounting provisions
  • Ethical issues in FCPA practice
  • How to effectively use data in investigations and compliance
  • How to build or enhance an anti-corruption compliance program

Wilson Sonsini partner, Tarek Helou, is a panelist for the following session: “Thorny and Recurring Anti-Corruption Compliance Issues,” April 11, 2024 at 9:00 AM EDT.

Topics in this session:

  • Considering compliance obligations for partners that are downstream in the sales channel
  • Evaluating relationships with State-Owned Entities
  • Assessing partnerships with members of a royal family
  • Considering risks of local content and offset requirements

Tarek Helou is a partner in the Washington, D.C., office of Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, where he represents companies in internal investigations and defends companies and individuals in significant and multi-jurisdictional government enforcement actions. He also handles crisis management and counsels clients on risk assessments, compliance, and due diligence, with a focus on anti-corruption matters. Tarek, a former supervisor in the U.S. Department of Justice's Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) Unit, has deep expertise in all aspects of government investigations, having led or supervised more than 100 FCPA investigations focusing on every major industry, including companies in the technology, software, data analytics, medical device, pharmaceutical, mining, oil and gas, and finance sectors. Those investigations have resulted in FCPA, wire fraud, money laundering, and tax charges against publicly traded and privately held companies, board members and executives, and senior foreign government officials.
