The Second Annual Rome Conference on AI, Ethics and Corporate Governance will again bring together senior executives from leading AI companies, as well as large enterprises deploying AI, with policymakers, scholars, ethicists and lawyers to holistically consider the challenges facing the ethics and governance of AI.

The emergence of generative AI marks a watershed moment in the evolution of human institutions. AI systems now make (or support) decisions that touch nearly every sector of public and private life, from healthcare and education to finance, law, and defense. Yet ensuring the alignment of AI technologies with fundamental human values raises unique ethical and governance challenges for business and society.

The Conference will incorporate into its discussion the Vatican’s January 2025 Note on AI Ethics, Antiqua et Nova, which recognized that “there is broad consensus that AI marks a new and significant phase in humanity’s engagement with technology” but as “AI advances rapidly toward greater achievements it is critically important to consider its anthropological and ethical implications.” At the same time, the Conference will consider these issues within the context of a growing consensus that the speed and global scope of AI innovation creates substantial challenges for any type of regulation.

Among the issues to be addressed during this two-day conference will be:

• Challenges and opportunities facing executives and directors within corporate governance models and creating effective oversight for boards developing or using AI technology;
• Ethical and business challenges faced by companies developing and deploying AI; and
• The business and technology challenges of AI, including the expanded global development of AI and its use in all industries.
