Please join partner Maneesha Mithal for a panel, "Online Tracking Technologies and the Digital Marketplace," on March 20 at 2:00 pm, and associate Stefan Geirhofer for a panel, "Quantum Leap: Quantum, Transformation of Encryption, and More," on March 21 at 3:00 pm at the ABA Privacy and Emerging Technology National Institute.
The "Online Tracking Technologies and the Digital Marketplace" panel will provide an overview of tracking practices and technologies, including what information cookies, pixels, and other online tracking technologies collect. It will discuss federal and state laws and regulations that govern, or have been used to challenge, the use of tracking technologies (including the HHS guidance issued 5 under the HIPAA privacy and security regulations), explore the key issues in arbitrations over tracking tools under state wiretapping laws, such as the California Invasion of Privacy Act, and delve into third-party issues: the differences in information use and sharing through first-party versus third-party tracking tools, and what courts say is permissible sharing of personal data collected through online tracking tools.
The "Quantum Leap: Quantum, Transformation of Encryption, and More" panel will discuss what is meant by "quantum" and why it matters now, explore the legal implications of anticipated applications of quantum computing, identify emerging legal issues arising from developing and adopting this technology, and prepare clients for transformations likely to result from quantum computing.
