Dr. Richard A. Miller is the 2020 recipient of the Third Annual Drug Hunter Award for his significant contributions to bringing new drugs to the market, and in particular, Rituxan® and Imbruvica®.
Richard Miller, M.D., has over 25 years of experience developing successful medicines. Currently, Dr. Miller is the president and chief executive officer of Corvus Pharmaceuticals, which he founded in 2014. Corvus is a clinical science-driven biopharmaceutical company focused on the development of cleverly-designed medicines with precise mechanisms of action to improve the lives of patients with the most difficult-to-treat cancers. Previously, Dr. Miller was co-founder and chief executive officer of Pharmacyclics, where he led the initial discovery and development efforts for ibrutinib. Prior to that, he was a co-founder, Vice President and Director of IDEC (which merged to form Biogen IDEC, now Biogen), where he led research efforts on lymphoma culminating in the development of rituximab. Both ibrutinib and rituxibab are examples of highly successful, multi-billion dollar medicines that Dr. Miller has played an instrumental role in developing and bringing to market. He has also founded other private and public biotech companies where he held C-Suite roles. Dr. Miller received an M.D. from the State University of New York Medical School, summa cum laude. He is a board-certified oncologist and is currently Adjunct Clinical Professor of Medicine (oncology) at Stanford University Medical Center.
This seminar series is sponsored by the UC Drug Discovery Consortium, the Center for Drug Discovery Innovation, and the law firm of Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, and is hosted by UCSF.
