PALO ALTO, CA (August 6, 2018) - Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, the premier provider of legal services to technology, life sciences, and growth enterprises worldwide, announced today that Audrey S. Garfield has joined the firm's technology transactions practice as Of Counsel in the Palo Alto office. She has more than 20 years of experience handling a wide range of technology, intellectual property and privacy matters.
Most recently, Garfield was senior corporate counsel in the product, technology, and privacy law group at VMware, where she drafted, and negotiated intellectual property licenses, counselled product teams regarding use of open source software and evaluated VMware products and SaaS offerings for compliance with global privacy laws, among other matters. Before joining VMware, Garfield served as general counsel and corporate secretary at AppDirect from 2012 to 2016, where she was responsible forall legal matters including the company's strategic transactions, three acquisitions, three financings, as well as drafted and negotiated complex agreements involving SaaS technology, intellectual property rights, and privacy issues.

From 2010 to 2012, Garfield was Of Counsel in WSGR's technology transactions practice—she was also previously an associate in the firm's Palo Alto office from 1999 to 2002. Prior to rejoining WSGR in 2010, Audrey ran her own legal consulting company from 2008 to 2010, counseling companies on the development, transfer, licensing, and protection of technology and intellectual property rights. She also served as vice president and general counsel at SideStep from 2004 to 2008, where she provided legal and business advice to management and the company's board of directors regarding transactions, intellectual property rights protection, employment policies, and other key matters.
Garfield earned her J.D., magna cum laude and Order of the Coif, from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law, in 1991. After law school, Garfield clerked for the Honorable Herbert Y.C. Choy of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. She received a B.A. in political science from the University of Rochester in 1986 where she graduated magna cum laude. Garfield is admitted to practice in California.
