Privacy and Data Protection
Megan Kayo is an associate in the San Francisco office of Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, where she counsels companies on data protection, cybersecurity, and privacy issues under U.S. and international laws, including the General Data Protection Regulation.
Megan specializes in assisting companies in investigating and responding to information security and privacy incidents. In addition, she helps companies evaluate their cyber risk and creates incident response plans that comply with quickly evolving law and contractual obligations. Megan also works with companies to prepare privacy policies that address the unique risks in companies' collection, use, disclosure, and processing of data. Further, Megan assists in counseling boards and directors on governance of cybersecurity issues, including regarding enforcement actions and investigations by the Securities and Exchange Commission.
Prior to joining the firm, Megan was an associate at an international law firm, where she practiced insurance coverage law with a specialization in cybersecurity, privacy, and data breaches. She counseled clients regarding coverage in connection with investigating and responding to incidents, including data breaches impacting personal information of millions of individuals. Megan participated in developing strategy to defend companies in data breach class actions and investigations brought by regulators, including state attorneys general and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Office for Civil Rights.
During law school, Megan served as a judicial extern to the Honorable Eric C. Taylor of the Los Angeles Superior Court.EDUCATION:
