Privacy and Data Protection
Mariam Abdel-Malek is an associate in the San Francisco office of Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, where her practice focuses on a myriad of U.S. and international privacy and data security issues. Mariam counsels clients regarding lawful data processing, disclosures, transfers, data breach response, and government investigations of companies' privacy and security practices.
Mariam has experience advising clients on compliance with existing privacy laws and regulations, including Section 5 of the Federal Trade Commission Act, the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act, CAN-SPAM, and the General Data Protection Regulation. She also works with clients to develop policies, negotiate agreements, and conduct privacy due diligence during acquisitions.
After law school, Mariam completed a post-bar fellowship at the California Department of Justice's Privacy Enforcement and Protection Unit, where she worked on privacy inquiries and investigations.
Prior to joining the firm, Mariam was privacy counsel at Paragon Legal on secondment at Autodesk in San Francisco.
