Gail Wilensky: The Future of the US Healthcare Business

Dr Gail Wilensky is a Senior Fellow at Project HOPE, an international health education foundation, where she analyzes and develops policies relating to health care reform and to ongoing changes in the health care environment.  Currently, Dr. Wilensky serves on the board of directors for Cephalon, Quest Diagnostics, SRA International and the United Healthcare Group.  Dr. Wilensky’s perspective is richly informed by her prior involvement in numerous healthcare organizations throughout her career including her work with in the public sector with the Defense Health Board, the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission, the Department of Health and Human Services, and the White House.  In addition, she previously was a director on the boards of several other public companies including St. Jude Medical and Marion Merrell Dow.

In her talk Dr. Wilensky will explore the policies and politics of healthcare reform and the implications for society, technology and the medical device industry.

Healthcare reform remains a work in progress, and this panel of medtech investors and medtech executives from large and small companies will discuss the impact of such uncertainty on the current and future pipeline for medtech innovation. There can be no question that the ongoing implementation of healthcare reform policies is leading many entrepreneurs, investors and Medtech companies large and small to rethink their strategies for product innovation, and could lead to the flight of capital and companies to other countries. Join us for an important discussion on the future of the Medtech industry.

  • Arizona Cowboy College: So you already know the basics of horseback riding and are looking for a new adventure. Time to roll up your sleeves and get dirty at Cowboy College. Activities may include horseback riding lessons with games and barrel racing, grooming and saddling lesson, and roping with a mechanical horse. Your “Trail Bosses” are local cowboy professionals who have plenty of real-life, practical working ranch experiences – and some stories to share. Happy Trails!
  • Kayak on the Verde: The Verde River runs through the heart of Arizona, and provides desert dwellers with scenic views and a wonderful water escape. Guests will explore gravel shallows, quiet pools, and an occasional swift water chute to challenge boating skills. Experienced guides bring the landscape to life with interesting tidbits of history and intrigue about earlier inhabitants and the native plants and wildlife that may be encountered along the way.
  • Tennis Tournament: Spend the afternoon at the Four Seasons Resort Scottsdale tennis facilities. The afternoon will start with a brief clinic, to be followed by a round robin tournament. Players will switch both partners and opponents on each round. Tennis pros are on hand to provide instruction throughout.
  • The Phoenix School of Rock!: Missed the auditions for American Idol? Here is a chance to spend the afternoon rehearsing and recording with with an award-winning producer and instructor to create some music magic. Get a hands-on overview of the recording process from equipment setup through multi-track recording and final production. Finally, participate as a musician or a performer in the recording and production of a popular song with lyrics re-written with a medical device theme. Anyone from professional musicians to the simply curious are encouraged to participate.
