Anna Pateraki is an associate in Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati's Brussels office. Her practice is focused on all aspects of European privacy and data protection law. She has extensive experience advising clients on pan-European data protection compliance across a range of sectors, including German- and Greek-related data protection issues. Anna also advises clients on electronic privacy, data breaches, global privacy policies, cross-border data-transfer requirements, employee and customer data issues, and records-retention schedules.
Prior to joining the firm, Anna was an associate in the Brussels office of Hunton & Williams. She has worked for the European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS) and the IT law departments of leading law firms in Germany.
Anna is fluent in English, German, and Greek.
SELECT REPRESENTATIONS:- Advised multinational companies on the draft EU Data Protection Regulation and its implications for online services
- Assisted a multinational company in developing a strategy for binding corporate rules (BCRs)
- Advised various U.S. companies in verifying Safe Harbor compliance
- Advised various technology companies such as mobile app providers, social media, health research platforms, and other online services on a variety of EU data protection issues, including privacy policies and consent forms, cross-border data transfers, data security, privacy by design, email marketing, cookies, and online behavioral advertising
- Counseling a technology start-up company that develops copyright antipiracy devices on EU data protection compliance, including drafting a Privacy Impact Assessment and performing regulatory filings
- Advised a multinational company regarding a data breach incident and coordinated advice in a significant number of countries worldwide
- Counseled a multinational company on verifying its registrations with data protection authorities in various EU member states
- Advised an international company on pan-European data protection compliance issues and performed due diligence on data protection aspects relating to the acquisition of a service provider
- Advised a copyright holder representative organization on privacy and data protection issues in various EU member states
- Counseled multinational companies on direct marketing requirements, cookies, data breaches, cross-border data transfers, employee data protection, implementation of privacy and data security policies, and records-retention schedules
